safe enough
your instinct
when someone asks you the question
do you want to be safe
may be to say
yes
and that makes sense
we all want to be safe
safe from war
safe from aggression
safe from bullying
safe from crime
safe from losing our will to live
safe in the knowledge that life is good and continues to be so
safe from worry and sorrow and pain
safe in ourselves
only
just as it is impossible to be happy all the time
so is it impossible to be safe all the time
complete safety
doesn't exist
nor should it
can you imagine how dreadful life would become if it were
entirely safe
we need a bit of an edge
we need an adventure sometimes
we need a challenge and we need
to leave
our famous
comfort zone
every so often
to know what it is to be living
and so sometimes you may not in fact want to be
safe
you may want anything other than safety
you may want
risk and thrill and excitement and
danger
and that's all very well
and perfectly healthy
up to a point
deep down though you know that even if you
climb the north face
drop out of an aeroplane
or swim the atlantic
you still want to survive
intact
you may
not want to be safe
but you almost certainly
deep down
want to be
safe enough
and so does everyone else
which only means that whatever you do
don't put someone in danger they don't want to be in
that's all
and that includes
you
